Laem Sak Bay, Local Life and a Beautiful Temple

Laem Sak Bay is a community where three cultures live side by side — Thai Buddhist, Thai Muslim and Thai-Chinese Nyonya — and it is known for its ecotourism. A great favourite, and one we recommend.

TOUR PLAN:

08:00 - 08:30 Hotel pick-up.

09:30 Than Bok Khorani National Park. A walk of about 300 metres to the Than Bok Khorani waterfall. This area is known as

„the great forest at the heart of the community”, with clear water running out of Tham Nam Lod, the Water Cave. In front of the cave is a beautiful natural pool ringed by tall trees.

10:30 Wat Mahathat Laem Sak. A large, striking white temple on a hill, holding relics of the Buddha that Buddhists come to venerate.

From the upper balcony there is a full 360-degree view over the Andaman Sea.

11:30 Lunch at a restaurant in a palm garden, with views over the mountains and lotus ponds.

12:30 Back to the pier. Board a traditional longtail boat for the next part of the day.

13:00 The first stop, Pha Khao Khom, a limestone sea cliff with a long curved notch running up it. The scenery here is beautiful and quietly romantic,

and it photographs well.

14:00 On to Pha Hua Jai, the Heart Cliff. The longtail boat takes you through a lagoon along a limestone cliff where the sea and the wind have carved a large heart,

clearly visible against the horizon. A favourite spot for couples, and for photographs worth keeping.

15:00 Ancient cave paintings and islets: we pass Khao Lek Khon, with prehistoric cave paintings more than 3,000 years old

on the walls of the sea caves.

15:30 A visit to a fish and lobster farm run by the villagers, and a look at how they fish. A demonstration of how the seven-colour

lobsters are raised in cages at sea, much like the ones local people use for sea fish, lobsters, oysters and sea grapes.

16:30 The return crossing to the pier and a safe journey home.
