The Heart of Krabi — a Thai Village on an Island

You will see a Thai village on an island in Krabi province and watch everyday country life for yourself, animals and all. There are no cars at all on the island — everyone gets around by motorbike. A great favourite with our guests.

„The Heart of Krabi" — a Thai village on an island in Krabi province, home to 4,500 people.

Among the palms we drink coconut water straight from the nut, and take a few photographs worth keeping.

You will see a rice field and how rice grows in the provinces, and honey being made by a species of bee quite unlike the ones back home.

Hand-woven and hand-painted cloth, products made from coconut shells, a souvenir shop, and country life in Thailand in front of you — animals included.

There are no cars at all on the island, only motorbikes. It is quite something.

Tour plans

Departing from Krabi

  1. A car collects you from your accommodation.

  2. A beautiful temple near Ao Nang, with a golden Buddha set on top of a hill. You can climb the steps to pay your respects, and the view from up there is lovely. There are many sacred figures here, among them the Goddess of Mercy.

  3. On to the pier, heading for Khao Khanap Nam. The boat ride takes only 15 minutes.

Khao Khanap Nam is one of the landmarks of Krabi province and an archaeological site.

It is a pair of limestone mountains of a very distinctive shape.

The Krabi river runs between them, with dense mangrove forest on both banks. Inside there is a cave holding a six-metre human skeleton and prehistoric paintings. Japanese soldiers sheltered in this cave during the war. There are stalactites and stalagmites, and rock formations in strange shapes.

At the far end of the cave an opening leads back outside. Then a boat trip along the river to see the mangroves up close.

We take the boat through a tunnel between the mangroves — tide permitting.

Look closely at the mangrove trees: this is where the crabs live.

We reach a Thai village on the island and see how the people there live.

  4. The boat docks. A ride on a three-wheeled tuk-tuk to see the community in the middle of the island — around 4,500 Thai people live here.

You will see a rice field in a province that produces honey, from a quite different species of bee. Fabric hand-painted locally. Products made from coconut shells. A souvenir shop. Pictures of local life and animals in Thailand. There are no cars on this island. Only motorbikes.

  5. Back to the mainland by boat. A walk around the evening market, with a wide choice of food and drink. Have a cold Thai beer and listen to the music 😉

  6. We take you safely back to your accommodation.
